I was surprised that Moodle was open source. I have heard it mentioned in the school as part of a resource that the teachers have use of. So, I decided to ask one of the teachers.
Her response was
“Moodle stands for Modular Object-Oriented dynamic Learning Environment. It is a e-learning software platform. We had to have a password and username. It was an on-line course in writing that we had to take because we are 4th grade teachers. The state requires a writing test for 4, 7 and 11 graders so we had to take the on-line course. So bottom line, we had to sign-in to MOODLE to learn more about writing and how to teach it.”
The Open High school is a benefit for the students. I can see how it can also be utilized at home as well as school. I think it is much like online courses offered. I have no concerns with the 21st Century students learning in this manner. I will reduce missed assignments from school if they can log on at any time to complete an activity.
